Accelerated Mobile Pages is an open source technology made by Google, introduced at the end of 2015. The first AMP pages were live on February 2016. This technology enables to load mobile webpages until 30 times faster than with regular mobile webpages.
AMP technology is made of 3 main parts.
- AMP HTML: it includes regular HTML but with restrictions. Some extensions allow to create more increased content than with regular HTML
- AMP CDN: Such as Google AMP Cache (optional) which allows to produce the AMP HTML pages. CDN refers to Content Delivery Network, in addition with caching your AMP-enabled paged, it will automatically make some performance improvements.
The AMP format has an obvious interest, it is recommended to use it especially if you run a kind of blog. On the contrary, if you run an e-commerce site, using AMP is less relevant as AMP consists in pushing in the background the non-textual elements in order to favor the fast display of the textual elements. However, on a product sheet, the text is not what matters the most.
